10 Authentic Pennsylvania Dutch Cookbooks & Recipe Books
In the U.S., we have many diverse cultures and communities, each with their own unique history and traditions. One of these groups is known as Pennsylvania Germans or Pennsylvania Dutch, a term that is often confused for being derogatory; however it has no negative connotations. This group of people originated from Germany, but settled in areas of Pennsylvania where they could practice their culture without persecution from other Americans who were intolerant towards them because they did not follow mainstream Protestant beliefs.
When people hear the word “Pennsylvania German” they may think of Pennsylvania Dutch. The two terms are not synonymous, though there is a relationship between them. Both refer to descendants of immigrants from Germany who settled in the United States during colonial times and later.

- Get healthy with these traditional and modernized recipes
- Old-style recipes that will make your mouth water
- A mixture of old school cooking methods and newer ideas for the health conscious
This Pennsylvania Dutch cookbook is a beautiful blast from the past. It is a combination of old-fashion cooking recipes and the newly invented recipes, covering the usual, from salads to desserts. Each recipe starts with a title, list of ingredients are included and you should be able to substitute for your healthier dietary needs: low sodium, low fat, low sugar and fresh vs. canned items.
The book contains many delicious sounding recipes that would make any mouth water at first glance but it does not include nutritional information on each recipe so you have no idea how much calories or cholesterol might be in each serving which makes it hard to plan meals around just this book alone when trying to avoid certain foods due to health issues such as diabetes or high blood pressure.
The solution I propose is simple – add nutritional information per serving on every recipe page next to existing ingredients list for easy reference while planning each meal based on individual food restrictions/choices such as gluten free
